Starting a new job when you’re young can be scary and overwhelming. Jumping into the working world can be tough for anyone. My name is Oliver, and I recently started my work experience with Adria Solutions. This article reflects my experience in the world of recruitment, hoping it can help someone also starting a career and looking for work experience in recruitment.

My Work Experience Journey in a Recruitment Agency

Securing a work experience placement at Adria Solutions came after a research process and a keen drive to venture into the world of recruitment and marketing. After researching different companies, Adria Solutions appealed to me the best choice for its leading market position in my area.

My application process involved submitting a detailed CV and a cover letter expressing my enthusiasm for recruitment, technology and digital marketing and my eagerness to learn about recruitment’s strategic aspects. The company’s initial response was very positive and made me know I was entering a welcoming working environment.

When first starting your work experience, it is normal to be nervous as well as excited. It was fair to say I had very mixed feelings as it was my first time stepping into a professional environment. However, this triggered my enthusiasm to take in and learn as much as I could and ensure that I got the best experience I could.

What I Have Learnt in my Work Experience at Adria Solutions

After an introduction to the world of recruitment, the first days, they helped me learn about social media management, content creation, market research, candidate screening and interviews, and client communication. I sat down with several recruitment consultants, management and accounting throughout the week. I shadowed them to take in as much as possible from all the different areas involved in a recruitment business.

As someone starting a career, a work experience placement at a company like Adria Solutions can provide a unique vantage to observe and learn about the digital marketing industry and the everyday work of recruitment consultants.

It has given information about different topics, including the importance of having a digital presence, making decisions using data and adapting to the constant changes of digital marketing. Lastly, we addressed issues of ethics and responsibility in recruitment. But there is also so much more that you learn and get to know along the way.

This will prepare you for future challenges and roles. Showing eagerness to learn demonstrates to your supervisors and colleagues that you’re not just there to fulfil a requirement; you’re there to grow. This attitude often leads to being entrusted with more significant responsibilities, providing deeper learning experiences.

Reflect on your Skills and Apply

Reflecting regularly helps you evaluate your performance objectively, acknowledge your strengths, and pinpoint areas for improvement. This self-awareness is critical for personal and professional growth. To reflect effectively, you need to be honest and consistent, writing in your journal or log daily to keep emotions fresh.

You should also ask guiding questions like, “What did I learn today?” or “How do I feel about this learning?” for a more effective reflection process.

Are Work Experiences Worth It?

From my experience, I would say work experience is worth it, as it prepares you for when the time comes to get a job, so I encourage you to start researching where you want to gain real work experience to improve your career opportunities in the future and apply for work experience opportunities today.

Work experience is an excellent start to professional development. It offers a unique mix of learning, growth and insight that education from school cannot provide. Work experience is a hands-on experience of what to do when it’s time to enter the professional world. Through this, students like me can gain an all-around understanding of their chosen field, as well as valuable life lessons.

Work experience is a key part of the employee lifecycle, as that’s where it all starts. It also allows you to learn more about a company’s culture and gives you an idea of what office life is like. In the future, it can improve your employee experience at other businesses, as you know what to expect.
